Today, we got to meet our October Student of the Month via Zoom.
Kien (Miya) Che transferred to RHS from a small girls boarding school in Cameroon in 10th grade.
She enjoys challenging herself with her course work and is a member of the Nat'l Honor Society, Speech/Debate Team, Math Team, Quiz Bowl Team, Student Ambassador among other clubs. Miya hopes to attend the U of Chicago and has also applied at Harvard, Northwestern & John Hopkins. She plans to study Forensics and/or medicine.
In her words, "I try to make small changes to make an impact" & "enjoy helping people". She didn't seem thrilled about being inducted into the NHS until she found it to be a service society along with being academic.
Miya's name means "thank you". We thank you Miya and applaud you for who you are. You certainly are a living example of Rotary's motto, Service Above Self. We wish you the very best in 2020 and beyond.
