September 2015 Student of the Month: Madison Morehouse

Sponsored by Inver Hills Community College and Dakota County Technical College
The Rotary Club of Rosemount is pleased to announce that Rosemount High School senior Madison Morehouse is its September 2015 Student of the Month.

Madison lives in Rosemount with her parents, Michael and Jody, and her thirteen-year old brother Mason, who attends Rosemount Middle School.

Madison excels both in and out of the classroom.  In addition to taking AP (Advanced Placement) and CIS (College in School) courses, she is involved in her second year as a PSEO student. PSEO is a post-secondary enrollment program in which students choose to attend a community or technical college part or full time. This semester, for example, she will take a world history course at Inver Hills Community College and a physics and literature course at Dakota County Technical College. Madison has lettered in academics every year in high school.

Madison is also involved in many school activities that go beyond academics. She is enrolled in the choral program at RHS and is President of the Concert Choir. She also performs in the district Solo-Ensemble Contest. To prepare solos and other auditions, she has taken private voice lessons since her freshman year. Last spring, she accompanied eighty choral students to France for a week-long experience singing in various cathedrals and churches, and exploring Paris, Normandy, and several smaller villages. Madison has also been involved as a chorus member in RHS’s OnStage show every year.

Madison also serves in a number of leadership roles.  She is active in RHS’s speech team, where she serves a captain.  As President of the Student Council, Madison also serves her fellow students by overseeing and organizing a variety of events during the school year, including the recent homecoming activities. Madison is also a member of National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, and Tri-M Music Honor Society. Each of these honor societies requires volunteer hours in order to participate, and Madison easily surpasses these requirements through her volunteer efforts at school and in the community.

Madison is an officer in the RHS GOAT program, or Group of Active Teens. She and other leaders plan volunteering events each month for other students. She also volunteers as a 6th grade catechist at St. Joseph's Catholic Church and as a participant in 4-H’s youth teaching youth program. With each assignment, she spends one hour a week for three weeks in an elementary classroom, teaching fourth graders about the dangers of tobacco, alcohol, peer pressure and cyberbullying. She and her teaching partner Natalie Stoner were awarded an honorable mention in April of 2014 for promoting the health and wellness of citizens of Dakota County from their Department of Health.

Madison works as a tutor for a student who struggles with math. She also works as a member of the kitchen staff at Afton Apple Orchard.

In her spare time, which is rather limited, Madison enjoys spending time relaxing with her friends and family.

After high school, Madison plans to attend the University of Minnesota Twin Cities Carlson School of Management, with an emphasis on international business practices and HR management.
